Terms of Use
In plain language. Your photos are yours. Shooting is always free; developing a print spends a frame of film. Pro comes two ways — an auto-renewing subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase — and both unlock exactly the same things. Subscriptions keep renewing until you cancel them in iOS Settings. This summary is for orientation only; the sections below are the agreement.
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and the developer of Toasto ("Toasto", "we", "us"). By downloading, installing or using the Toasto app you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.
Toasto is distributed through the App Store. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies in addition to these Terms; where the two conflict on a matter concerning the App Store itself, Apple's terms govern that matter.
2. Licence and permitted use
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Toasto on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, in accordance with the App Store Usage Rules. Family Sharing, where we enable it and where Apple's rules allow it, extends this licence to the members of your family group.
The licence is for your own use of the app. It does not transfer any ownership. The app itself — its code, name, icon, interface, artwork, the film and print simulations, and everything else we made — remains ours.
3. Your content is yours
The photos you take, the depth data and Live clips recorded with them, and the doodles and finishes you apply are your content. We claim no ownership of it and take no licence to it. We could not use it even if we wanted to: it is stored on your device, and where iCloud sync is enabled it moves through your own private CloudKit database, which we cannot read. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
You are responsible for what you photograph and for what you do with the results, including respecting the privacy and the rights of the people and places in your pictures.
4. Film stock and the free tier
Toasto keeps a count of film stock, shared across every paper size and both modes.
- Shooting is always free. You can press the shutter with zero film in the vault.
- A frame is spent when the image appears — when you start developing an instant print, or when you peel a peel-apart print open.
- Free film restores over time: roughly one frame every two hours, up to a maximum of ten in the vault. New installations start with a full vault.
- At zero film, the action that would have spent a frame instead offers Pro. The print rests on your shelf in its undeveloped or unpeeled state until you have film again — nothing you shot is lost.
- Exports made without Pro carry a small Toasto badge.
These numbers are part of the design of the app rather than a promise. We may adjust the restore rate, the vault size and where a frame is spent in future versions; we would describe any such change in the release notes.
5. Toasto Pro
Toasto Pro unlocks unlimited developing, all filters and lens effects, all frame styles and paper textures, iCloud sync across your devices, and exports without the Toasto badge. It is offered in two tracks that carry identical privileges: you never get more by choosing one over the other.
Auto-renewing subscriptions (monthly and yearly)
- Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically for another period of the same length unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple account is charged for the next period within 24 hours before the current period ends, at the price then in effect.
- You can cancel at any time after purchase, in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro stays unlocked until the end of the period you have already paid for. There is no partial refund for an unused part of a period, except where the law requires one.
- Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription — cancel it in Settings.
Lifetime unlock (one-time purchase)
- A single payment that permanently unlocks Pro for the Apple account used to buy it. It does not renew and is never charged again.
- "Lifetime" refers to the life of the app: it does not oblige us to publish, operate or support Toasto, or any service it depends on, indefinitely.
Prices, refunds and restoring
- Prices are shown in the app and in the App Store at the moment of purchase, and vary by region and currency. We may change prices; a change to a subscription price takes effect no earlier than the next period, subject to the notice and consent rules Apple applies.
- Payments are processed by Apple, and purchase verification is handled on our behalf by RevenueCat. Refunds are Apple's to grant — request one through Apple's support channels. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases ourselves.
- Restore Purchases, in the app, re-applies an existing entitlement to a device signed in to the same Apple account.
6. iCloud sync, backup and data loss
iCloud sync is a Pro convenience for keeping your library in step across your own devices. It is not a backup service, and we do not hold a copy of your photos from which anything could be restored.
If sync has never been turned on, deleting the app deletes the photos in it, including prints you never exported. Keeping your own backups is up to you.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except to the extent the law expressly permits it despite this restriction;
- tamper with, bypass or fake film stock, Pro entitlement checks or purchase verification;
- redistribute, resell, rent or sublicense the app;
- use Toasto to create, store or share content that is unlawful where you are, or that infringes someone else's rights.
We may end your licence if you materially break these rules.
8. Changes to the app
Toasto is actively developed. We may add, change or remove features, film mechanics, styles, filters and lens effects. If we materially reduce what Pro includes, we will say so in the release notes for that version.
9. Third-party services and Apple
Toasto relies on Apple for distribution, in-app purchase and iCloud, on RevenueCat for purchase verification, and on Google Firebase for anonymous crash reporting and usage analytics (see the Privacy Policy). Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Toasto. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or privacy law, and for the investigation and defence of any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
Toasto is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or iOS version.
The film, developing and peeling behaviours are an artistic simulation, not a physical or chemical reproduction. Where the camera hardware cannot supply depth, depth is estimated on device and is an approximation; 3D parallax results will vary with the scene.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost photos, lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of or inability to use Toasto. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing takes away the mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page changes, and material changes are described here or in the app. Continuing to use Toasto after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app; if you hold an active subscription, you can cancel it in iOS Settings.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts available to you there under those laws. Mandatory consumer protection rules of your place of residence continue to apply regardless of anything in these Terms.
